Circular Materials Update

Effective September 15, 2022, Circular Materials successfully acquired the operations of the Resource Recovery Alliance (RRA), formerly known as the Canadian Stewardship Services Alliance.

This acquisition is a positive step forward that will result in greater efficiencies and resources as Circular Materials prepares for the Ontario blue box transition next year.

Producers have financed the development of RRA’s operations, systems, and intellectual property through fees paid to provincial recycling organizations since 2012. This purchase returns what producers have built over the last decade back to a not-for-profit, producer-created and governed organization.

Circular Materials’ operations, priorities and mandate remains unchanged.  It remains on track to build and implement a blue box recycling system that advances innovation, increases performance and delivers improved environmental outcomes.

“We look forward to working with a talented team of employees to help accelerate our goals, expansion plans and vision of leading the next evolution of recycling and extended producer responsibility across Canada”, said Allen Langdon, CEO, Circular Materials.

As the national not-for-profit producer responsibility organization that serves, represents and supports producers in building more efficient recycling systems across Canada, Circular Materials represents the evolution from product stewardship to a more circular economy where materials are collected, recycled, and returned to producers for use as recycled content in new products and packaging. More material looped into the circular economy means less waste, which not only benefits consumers, but also the planet.
