As of April 1, 2025, North Huron’s recycling program will be managed by Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization that is committed to building an efficient and effective recycling system in Ontario.

Be recycle ready

  • Place all recycling at the curb by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection. Please check the recycling calendar to determine your scheduled collection day.
  • Recyclables should be placed loose inside blue boxes. Please do not bag recyclables.
  • Flatten and break down cardboard to save space in your bin and ensure it’s collected.
  • Blue box containers set out for collection cannot exceed 18-24 gallons.
  • Rinse containers to remove any residue. Contaminated recycling will be left behind.

Accepted materials

Learn more about what materials are accepted in your recycling.

  • Glass bottles and jars – used for food and drink only. Remember to give containers a quick rinse.
  • Aluminum and steel cans – soft drink cans and food cans.
  • Plastic – plastic bottles, jugs and containers with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7
  • Aspectic/gable top cartons – milk, juice and broth
  • Cardboard and boxboard – all cardboard must be flattened and tied in bundles of 24″ x 18″ x 6″
  • Film plastics – no plastic bags, salt bags, or plastic wrapping
  • Scrap metal – tire rims, kitchen sinks, taps
  • Glass – drinking glasses, dishes, cups, window glass, mirrors, light bulbs, crystal, pottery, glass pots
  • Hot beverage cups, coat hangers, paint cans with residue, tissues, waxed paper, foil gift wrap, Styrofoam/polystyrene, dish pails, toys, makeup jars, motor oil jugs, and salt bags
