As of April 1, 2025, French River’s recycling program will be managed by Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization that is committed to building an efficient and effective recycling system in Ontario.

Be recycle ready

  • Place all recycling at the end of your driveway by 7 a.m. on your collection day. . There is no limit on the number of recyclable materials collected per household.
  • Do not use black garbage bags for recycling
  • Rinse containers to remove any food and residue.
  • Separate recyclables from garbage and avoid using black garbage bags for recyclables.

  • Glass bottles and jars
    • Bottles, jars (lids on)
  • Plastic containers
    • Tubs, lids
    • Clear food containers/clamshells
    • Disposable plates, cups, berry containers
    • Detergent, hand soap, shampoo bottles (lids, sprayers, pumps – on tight)
    • Beverage bottles (lids on)
    • Cat litter tubs with plastic handles
    • Plastic paint pails (empty and remove handles)
    • Clear compact disk cases (empty)
  • Paper and cardboard
    • Bags, advertising mail, fine paper, envelopes (including window)
    • Shredded paper (put in clear plastic bag, tie closed)
    • Gift wrap, cards (no ribbons, bows, foil wrap)
    • Newspapers, flyers, directories, magazines, catalogues
    • Soft/hard cover books
    • Cardboard
    • Boxboard (e.g. cereal, tissue, detergent, shoe; remove liners, flatten)
    • Corrugated cardboard (clean, unwaxed, flattened; pizza boxes must be empty; remove over-wrap from water/soft drink cases, recycle separately)
    • Rolls (toilet, paper towel, wrapping paper)
    • Milk/juice cartons and boxes (straws are garbage)
  • Metal containers
    • Aluminum/steel cans (place lid in can and pinch closed)
    • Aluminum trays, burner liners, pie plates, roasting pans
    • Aerosol cans (empty; lids on)
    • Paint cans (empty; remove lids and recycle separately
  • Film plastics – no plastic bags, salt bags, or plastic wrapping
  • Scrap metal – tire rims, kitchen sinks, taps
  • Glass – drinking glasses, dishes, cups, window glass, mirrors, light bulbs, crystal, pottery, glass pots
  • Hot beverage cups, coat hangers, paint cans with residue, tissues, waxed paper, foil gift wrap, Styrofoam/polystyrene, dish pails, toys, makeup jars, motor oil jugs, and salt bags
