Starting in April, recycling in Dufferin County will be even more convenient with a new recycling cart. Carts will be delivered in March and can be used as of April 1. If you did not complete the Recycling Cart Request Form to request a smaller 240-litre recycling cart, a standard 360-litre cart will be delivered to your residence.

Other Key Highlights:

  • Expanded List of Accepted Materials: With advancements in the recycling system, residents will now be able to recycle more materials such as hot and cold beverage cups, black plastic containers, frozen juice containers, ice cream tubs, deodorant and toothpaste tubes. This expanded list of materials will increase the volume of recyclable materials generated and collected from households.
  • All Materials Must be Inside the Cart for Collection: All materials must be placed inside the recycling cart, with the lid fully closed to be ready for collection pick up. Please note that material placed outside the recycling cart will not be collected.
  • Collection Schedule: Recycling collection service in Dufferin County will remain weekly.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

If you did not complete the Recycling Cart Request Form to pre-order smaller 240-litre recycling cart, then the standard 360litre cart will be delivered to your residence starting in March 2026.

If you submitted a pre-order request form for a smaller 240-litre cart by the January 15 deadline, but have now decided to cancel your pre-order, please advise GLF by email at dufferin@gflenv.com as soon as possible. Once the pre-order for a smaller 240-litre cart has been implemented, you will not be able to exchange for a larger 360-litre cart going forward.

We recommend using the 360-litre recycling cart for at least 90 days to evaluate your household recycling needs and the below considerations:

  • Expanded List of Accepted Materials: With advancements in the recycling system, residents will now be able to recycle more materials such as hot and cold beverage cups, black plastic containers, frozen juice cans, ice cream tubs, deodorant and toothpaste tubes. This expanded list of materials will increase the volume of recyclable materials generated and collected from households.
  • All Materials Must be Inside the Cart for Collection: All materials must be placed inside the recycling cart, with the lid fully closed to be ready for collection pick up. Please note material placed outside the recycling cart will not be collected.
  • Weekly Collection Schedule: Recycling collection service in Dufferin County will remain weekly.

If,  after using the new 360-L cart for 90 days, residents
determine that a smaller cart size is required going forward, please send an email to
customerservice@circularmaterials.cato express your interest in exchanging for a smaller 240-L cart size in the future. Please note any future cart exchanges will depend on cart manufacturer inventories and production schedules.

At this time, there will be no changes to your weekly recycling collection schedule or frequency and your current recycling pickup day will remain the same.

Blue box materials, particularly cardboard, must be broken down and flattened to support using the space efficiently. A Recycling Container Request Form is available on our website for residents whose recycling needs consistently exceed the capacity of the recycling containers provided and who require an additional container.

Please note, we recommend that you use the 360-litre recycling cart for a period of 90 days to determine your recycling needs before submitting a request for an additional cart. It is common for a residence to experience significant seasonal variability in recycling needs and increased volume over the holiday period.

Please note, a second cart will not be provided for households who pre-ordered the smaller 240-litre size recycling cart by the January 15, 2026 deadline.

Residents are asked to use their current blue boxes until March 31, 2026. Starting April 1, 2026, residents will be required to use their new recycling cart. Residents can choose to re-purpose their old boxes, such as using them as storage containers.

A full list of materials that can be recycled can be found here. Starting January 1, 2026, you will be able to recycle the same materials no matter where you are in the province. The list of materials accepted for recycling has also expanded to include additional items such as hot and cold beverage cups, black plastic containers, frozen juice containers, ice cream tubs, deodorant and toothpaste tubes.

Anyone experiencing a permanent or temporary physical disability that restricts their ability to set out their recycling cart at the curbside may be eligible for assisted collection service. Please note, a physician’s note is required to apply for this assisted service. Please visit our website to access the Special Accommodation Recycling Collection Form.

GFL will continue to be the collection contractor for Dufferin County.

The RFID (radio-frequency identification) tag on your cart helps ensure your recycling cart is correctly registered to your address. This technology helps prevent lost or misplaced carts and supports efficient service delivery. The tag does not collect any personal information or track your activities.
