North Bay is undergoing changes to its recycling program. This page provides further information on the changes underway, including information on new recycling carts.
Starting June 1, 2026, North Bay residents will be using a new recycling cart to support recycling collection. In May 2026, each household will receive a standard-issued 360–litre wheeled, lidded recycling cart designed to accommodate a broad range of accepted materials on a weekly basis.
If a 360-litre size cart does not meet your recycling needs, you can pre-order a smaller 240-litre recycling cart by Friday, April 10, 2026.
For residents who want to receive the standard-issued 360-litre cart, and do not require a change, no action is required. You will receive your 360-litre cart delivery beginning in May 2026.
If you would like to proceed with a pre-order for a smaller 240-litre cart, please complete the Recycling Cart Request Form by Friday, April 10, 2026.
If you do not complete the Recycling Cart Pre-Order Request Form for a smaller 240-litre recycling cart, then the standard 360–litre cart will be delivered to your residence starting in May 2026.
Once the pre-order for a smaller 240-litre cart has been implemented, you will not be able to exchange for a larger 360-litre cart going forward.
Blue box materials, particularly cardboard, must be broken down and flattened to support using the space efficiently. An Additional Recycling Container Request Form is also available on our website for residents whose recycling needs consistently exceed the capacity of the recycling containers provided, and who require an additional container.
Please note, a second cart will not be provided for households who pre-ordered the smaller 240-litre size recycling cart.
There are currently no changes to your collection schedule. Recycling collection service in North Bay will remain every second week.
Residents are asked to use their current blue boxes until May 31, 2026. Starting June 1, 2026, residents will be required to use their new recycling cart. Residents can choose to re-purpose their old boxes, such as using them as storage containers.
A full list of materials that can be recycled can be found here. Starting January 1, 2026, you will be able to recycle the same materials no matter where you are in the province. The list of materials accepted for recycling has also expanded to include additional items such as hot and cold beverage cups, black plastic containers, frozen juice containers, ice cream tubs, deodorant and toothpaste tubes.
Anyone experiencing a permanent or temporary physical disability that restricts their ability to set out their recycling cart at the curbside may be eligible for assisted collection service. Please note, a physician’s note is required to apply for this assisted service. For more information, please visit our website to access the Special Accommodation Recycling Collection Application Form.
GFL will continue to be the collection contractor for North Bay.
The RFID (radio-frequency identification) tag on your cart helps ensure your recycling cart is correctly registered to your address. This technology helps prevent lost or misplaced carts and supports efficient service delivery. The tag does not collect any personal information or track your activities.
