New Membership Model
Overview
Circular Materials was founded by producers in 2021 as a not-for-profit producer responsibility organization (PRO) to support emerging extended producer responsibility (EPR) regulations in Ontario. Post inception, the organization has continued to evolve in response to emerging EPR regulations in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Alberta, and the Yukon.
Reflecting this broader geographic reach and a focus on delivering against future needs that align with the organization’s purpose and strategy, in 2025, Circular Materials’ Board of Directors recommended changing to a broad-based Membership Model. This model would provide all Circular Materials’ subscribing producers an opportunity to become voting members.
Producer engagement
As Circular Materials is created by producers, for producers, it was important that we understood and captured producers’ feedback. In support of this, Circular Materials conducted a 30-day consultation from June 17, 2025 – July 18, 2025, to gather feedback on the proposed Membership Model. All feedback has been reviewed and consolidated into a What We Heard report, which can be found here.
We want to thank our producers for all of their feedback and look forward to ongoing collaboration. Circular Materials’ new Membership Model will be finalized in the coming months, with more details to follow.
