Stewardship Ontario
Launched in 2004, Stewardship Ontario was the first extended producer responsibility (EPR) program for residential packaging and paper in Canada. They represent industry stewards in fulfilling their obligations to fund 50% of the cost of managing the collection and processing of residential packaging and paper. Stewardship Ontario is overseen by the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA).
Communities currently operating under the Waste Diversion Transition Act will transition to the new Blue Box Regulation beginning July 1, 2023.
All communities will have transitioned to the new Blue Box program by December 2025.
