About the Gold Star Contest

Are you Alberta’s next gold star recycler? Show off your recycling skills for your chance to win a gold recycling star prize pack!*

From October 8 to December 15, 2025, residents of the Town of Olds can participate by submitting photos of their recycling boxes.

Residents who meet the qualifying criteria will be entered into a random draw. 10 lucky winners will receive a gold recycling star prize pack including a Circular Materials gold star sticker, Circular Materials tote bag and drink cup. See below for more details and to submit your photos.

How to participate

Follow the steps below to enter the contest for a chance to win a gold star recycling prize pack.*

Sort your recycling

Ensure only acceptable materials are in your recycling boxes. Find your local material guidelines here.

Ensure you are recycle ready

  • Flatten and bundle: All cardboard should be flattened and bundled to save space in your cart. 
  • Keep it loose: Place your recyclables loose in the cart.
  • Ensure containers are empty: Keep materials clean and dry in your cart.

Take photos of your recycling

Take clear and accurate photos of your recycling and make sure your photos meet the qualifying criteria.

Submit your photos

Upload and submit your photos from October 8 to December 15, 2025, using the Submit Your Photos buttons.

You can submit a maximum of 3 photos in one submission.

Check your email for results

Contest draw date is December 19, 2025. Winners will be contacted via email by December 24, 2025.

Qualifying criteria

To qualify for the gold star contest, ensure your recycling carts meet the following criteria:

  • Only acceptable materials in your recycling cart.
  • Materials are placed loose in your cart.
  • Cardboard is flattened and bundled.
  • Materials are placed clean and dry in your cart.
