On January 25, 2024, the Government of Yukon introduced a new extended producer responsibility (EPR) regulation for packaging and paper products.<\/p>

On February 1, 2025, the Government of Yukon approved Circular Materials\u2019 Stewardship Plan for Packaging, Paper and Single-Use Products<\/a>, with a program start date of November 1, 2025.<\/p>

The Extended Producer Responsibility Regulation for the Yukon was published on January 25, 2024. Circular Materials will act as a producer responsibility organization (PRO) to support producers in meeting their regulatory requirements in the Yukon, including submitting a stewardship plan. Producers will be notified when registration for the Yukon is open.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

\n \n How do I know if I am exempt under the Regulation?<\/span> <\/path><\/svg><\/span><\/path><\/svg><\/span><\/span> <\/div>\n\n

To be exempt under\u00a0the Regulation<\/a>, you must be a small producer who:<\/p>

  1. is a registered charity, or<\/li>
  2. had a gross revenue in the Yukon in the most recently completed year of less than $1,000,000, or<\/li>
  3. imported into or supplied in the Yukon in the most recently completed year less than one tonne of designated materials in the packaging and paper products category.<\/li><\/ol>

    Small producers must keep records which demonstrate they are a small producer.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

    \n \n What are the designated materials?<\/span> <\/path><\/svg><\/span><\/path><\/svg><\/span><\/span> <\/div>\n\n
    \n

    Packaging:\u00a0<\/strong>primary packaging, convenience packaging, transport packaging.<\/p>

    Paper:\u00a0<\/strong>flyers, brochures, booklets, catalogues, telephone directories, newspapers, magazines, paper fibre, paper used for copying, writing or any other general use; paper of any other description.<\/p>

    Single-use products:\u00a0<\/strong>product, other than packaging, that is ordinarily disposed of after a single use or short-term use, whether or not it could be reused. E.g., straws, utensils, plates, bowls, cups, party supplies, food containers, foil and wraps, bags, boxes.<\/p>
